Lost Opportunity

This story caught my attention. Pastor answers crucial call

I have chosen to rewrite this post because, I understand that the situation was tense.

Jeff who responded had a valid point, maybe the Pastor in question will go back and lead this young man to Christ and that is my hope and prayer.

I do believe though it was an opportunity lost to share Jesus Christ with a man who obvisously was desperate.

God does love us, but it is through His Son that we are able to recieve that love.

1Pe 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

Tracye - Prophezine
Psalm 119:104 Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.

Tracye, I don't agree with your statement "all he got was the cotton candy version of the gospel." The man with a gun, who had just shot people was wrestling with the pastor, with a loaded gun still in his hands, and the pastor told him about God's love. That was not the time to lead him down the "romans road." The pastor said he was willing to go down to the jail and talk with the young man again. That would be the time to share Christ with him, not in the midst of a dangerous struggle.

I agree that that many in leadership do not have the moral backbone to preach Christ and him crucified. But to judge this pastor's actions is unfair and to call his comments "the cotton candy version of the gospel" is just the type of comment that turn so many people off.

We need to be loving and understanding of all people and leave the judgment to God. It is very possible that your prayer that someone will lead him to Jesus Christ will be answered through that pastor! Not all United Methdodists are flaming liberals!

Thank you Jeff for the post. On one hand I agree. I know that the situation was tense and unpredictable.

But I also know that Jesus is our only hope for forgiveness and eternal life in heaven with God, and "based" on what the article said, it is still my opinion that he could have shared the Gospel of Jesus Christ with him.

Yes God loves us, but that love is experienced through His Son.

There was another well publicized incident where someone was told about God's love and nothing about Jesus saving his soul. Once he was subdued and went to jail for his crime, he converted to Islam. It was an opportunity missed.

I never said that Methodist were flaming liberals, nor do I think or assume that. There are flaming liberals within every denomination, and there God fearing, Jesus loving born again saints in them as well.

All I was pointing out here is that in today's climate of easy believeism is, when we do not share the whole Gospel we do those who are seeking a great disservice.

My hope and prayer is that someone, hopefully the Pastor who this young man was put in the path of, will take the time to lead that young man to Christ.

Thank you Tracye for your follow-up! I agree with you that Jesus Christ is the answer to this worlds problems, and needs to be shared with people more than he is now!
I know you never called Methodists "flaming liberals" but that is how the denomination is looked upon by a majority of conservatives. I was simply trying to say that God has placed bible believing conservative pastors and lay members within the denomination, and hopefully we can bring Christ to the lost within the denomination.

Thank you for your faithfulness to God's Word.
